SAN JOSE, CA – (BUSINESS RESIDENCE) – June 29, 2021
Quanta Cloud Technology (QCT), a global provider of data center solutions, has announced OmniRAN, its virtualized radio access network (vRAN) solution developed with its longtime partners, Intel and Radisys. The solution uses Intel FlexRAN, cloud-enabled wireless access to virtual network features, and Radisys Connect 5G RAN software, disaggregated RAN architecture to promote 4G, 5G and IoT to build a cloud vRAN based on 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors running on QCT EGX63IS-1U servers.

To provide low latency and energy efficiency services with the flexibility to increase or decrease capacity based on real-time traffic, Intel’s special vRAN accelerator, ACC100, to accelerate forward error correction (FEC) is also an essential part from the integrated solution. Intel’s optimized 5G network adapter, codenamed Westport Channel, is also designed for accurate time synchronization without the added complexity or expense of special synchronization hardware. This validated QCT EGX63IS-1U combination extends the capabilities of the Distributed Unit (DU) to support multicellular and multi-RRU 5G scenarios, providing reliable performance for a variety of network loads.
As operators increasingly look for ways to accelerate the deployment of their 5G networks by using disaggregated and open reference architectural solutions, OpenRAN-based OmniRAN is designed to minimize infrastructure deployment challenges and increase ownership value. OmniRAN has already been successfully implemented in intelligent manufacturing cases such as AI safety for environmental control, high-resolution streaming for quality control, AR glasses for maintenance and repair, and autonomous driven vehicles (AGV) for transporting equipment. OmniRAN not only provides improved performance such as wider coverage and improved mobility, but also offers centralized management as well as greater scalability and flexibility in deployment, while achieving significant cost savings.
“QCT works closely with its partners to ensure that customers can always stay ahead of the game,” said Mike Young, president of QCT. “Incorporating the latest technologies and features from Intel and Radisys, QCT’s latest vRAN solution improves capital and operational efficiency by optimizing resource utilization and making software-defined management and orchestration possible.”
“Open 5G networks are the next step for customers in many sectors, and Radisys, together with our partners, offers open, disaggregated and virtualized RAN solutions to meet different business requirements,” said Munish Chhabra, Head of Mobility Software and Services Business. , Radisys. “We are excited to power the QCT vRAN solution through our first Release 16 Radisys 5G software stack market. The integrated solution allows mobile operators and businesses to benefit from reduced costs, improved network efficiency and faster launch of new services that offer open APIs and open architectures. “
“This demonstration by Intel, QCT and Radisys is important to accelerate the wider adoption of 5G,” said Christina Rodriguez, Intel’s vice president and general manager, Data Center Group, Wireless Network. “By defining FlexRAN’s reference architecture and working with our Intel Network Builders, Intel is expanding its growing portfolio of technologies and ecosystems to provide interoperability, improved performance, and reduced overhead for service providers worldwide.”
