In any wireless communication system, the critical part of the design is the complex technology needed to achieve the right radio solution. With an exponential increase in data rates and connectivity, in most cases this solution will be a broadband radio system. Designing such systems is a daunting and complex task, requiring the talents of experienced radio frequency engineers. Most would agree that this is one of the most demanding design elements one could undertake, but such engineers are also an expensive resource and are only needed for a limited period of time. The solution would be to simplify the process literally in a plug and play activity.
Mindy Bezhaun, a field application engineer in England, presents a portfolio of integrated products from Analog Devices that can help greatly simplify this RF design process and reduce the overall time required to implement a fully tested and certified radio communications system. Expert support from the experienced team of Anglia can further simplify and speed up the development process.
Analog Devices RadioVerse’s product portfolio includes advanced and innovative RF and mixed signal solutions that target applications where stable performance, low power consumption and low footprint are critical. The product range uses Analog Devices’ many years of experience in radio architectures, signal processing, circuit design and semiconductor processes to achieve breakthroughs in radio frequency connectivity, drastically reducing marketing time and overall costs while meeting heavy costs. technical challenges faced by designers.
RadioVerse ™ products are designed to allow designers to get around the pitfalls and the necessary experience associated with the broadband RF radio, which traditionally uses discrete components. Therefore, a complex implementation of a software-defined radio (SDR) architecture that would previously require an experienced RF engineer designing an RF signal circuit can now be implemented simply with a single chip and several supporting integrated circuits. This work can be done by an engineer with just basic RF experience.
Customers looking for a range of radio solutions are offered a relatively seamless path to implementation without having to engage in a complex design cycle. The RadioVerse product range provides benefits to customers with faster time to market and a cost-effective solution for those limited by strict R&D budgets. Analog Devices’ solutions cover a wide variety of wireless communication systems in radio engineering, whether in cellular, autonomous, industrial, 5G, space, defense or other markets looking for a radio solution.
RadioVerse ™ products are divided into 2 categories: SDR integrated broadband transceivers and ultra low power IoT transceivers.
SDR integrated broadband transceivers
Integrated SDR broadband transceivers cover the frequency range between 70MHz and 6GHz, as shown in Table 1. These integrated circuits are available in single, dual or quad-core transceiver architectures, offering designers the flexibility to use digital transceivers operating in TDD (Time Division Duplex) or FDD (Frequency Division Duplex) modes.
Table 1.
The range of SDR transceivers from Analog Devices provides high dynamic range and tolerance of blockers for narrow and broadband signals, which is one of the best in the industry. There are several high-end offerings available ADRV9008 and ADRV9026 450MHz wideband transceivers and multi-transmitter and receiver architecture down to the lower end of the spectrum with the AD9384, which has a narrower, 56MHz bandwidth and single transmitter & Receiver configuration. The wide range of SDR transceivers offered by Analog Devices allows designers to implement solutions from the most basic to the most demanding radio applications without having to compromise on performance and cost, while minimizing designer properties.
Extremely low power IoT transceivers
RadioVerse’s portfolio of integrated transceivers is specially designed for demanding IoT applications that require ultra-low power connectivity while maintaining high performance and reliability.
Table 2.
Ultra-low power devices support a wide range of frequency bands and communication protocols such as 802.15.4g, Wi-SUN, Wireless M-Bus Mode N, S, T, C, ZigBee and 6LoWPA. They cover the wide range of frequencies in the license-free band, in particular 169MHz, 433MHz, 450MHz, 470MHz, 868MHz, 915MHz and 950MHz, as shown in Table 2.
These devices are suitable for use in a wide range of applications such as Sensing, Smart Metering, Smart City or Smart Healthcare and many more areas where low power and reliable connectivity are required.
