VMware reports fiscal year 2022 second quarter results, Cloud Native

PALO ALTO, California. VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW), a leading innovator in enterprise software, today announced financial results for the second quarter of fiscal 2022:

  • Revenues for the second quarter were $ 3.14 billion, an increase of 9% compared to the second quarter of fiscal 2021.
  • The combination of subscription and SaaS and license revenue was $ 1.51 billion, an increase of 12% compared to the second quarter of fiscal 2021.
  • Subscription and SaaS revenue for the second quarter was $ 776 million, an increase of 23% on an annual basis.
  • The subscription and SaaS ARR for the second quarter were $ 3.15 billion, an increase of 26% on an annual basis.
  • GAAP net income for the second quarter was $ 411 million, or $ 0.97 per diluted share, a decrease of 8% per diluted share compared to $ 447 million, or $ 1.06 per diluted share for the second quarter of fiscal 2021. Net income outside GAAP for the second quarter was $ 739 million, or $ 1.75 per diluted share, by 3% per diluted share compared to $ 766 million, or $ 1.81 of diluted share for the second quarter of fiscal 2021
  • GAAP’s operating income for the second quarter was $ 525 million, a decrease of 2% compared to the second quarter of fiscal 2021. Non-GAAP operating income for the second quarter is $ 924 million, a decrease of 3% compared to the second quarter of fiscal 2021.
  • The operating cash flow for the second quarter was $ 864 million. The free cash flow for the second quarter was $ 777 million.
  • RPO for the second quarter is total $ 11.2 billion, by 8% more than the previous year.
  • The company remains on track for a planned spin – off from Dell Technologies Inc. in the beginning November 2021.

Business highlights and strategic communications

  • VMware introduced VMware Anywhere Workspace, a solution that combines VMware Workspace ONE, VMware SASE, and VMware Carbon Black Cloud, enabling organizations to manage multimodal employee experiences, better protect the distributed edge, and automate the workspace.
  • VMware works with Zoom Video Communications, Inc. to provide better and more secure collaboration for hybrid work environments. Efforts will ensure interoperability between VMware Anywhere Workspace and the Zoom Collaboration Platform to further improve the ease of use, performance, and security of applications and the network.
  • VMware and Vapor IO have announced that they are building a Multi-Cloud Grid service that integrates VMware Telco Cloud Platform with Vapor IO’s Kinetic Grid platform, designed to significantly simplify and reduce the cost of deploying distributed 5G systems and applications in real time.
  • Cohere Technologies and VMware develop an open radio access network (O-RAN) solution to help communication service providers improve network and spectrum efficiency and provide new and differentiated services and experience to their customers.
  • VMware has announced enhanced SaaS innovations for VMware Horizon, the industry-leading virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and the Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) platform. These new capabilities will make it easier for IT organizations to manage Horizon deployments wherever they are, locally or in the cloud.
