LISBON, Portugal, July 22, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – D-Orbit, a leader in the space logistics and transportation services industry and technology partner of Amazon Web Services (AWS), announced today the integration of the AWS ground station with D-Orbit Software for mission management based on AURORA cloud. D-Orbit uses the AWS Ground Station to power AURORA, manage D-Orbit’s increasingly complex ION Satellite Carrier missions, such as the current PULSE mission, and strengthen D-Orbit’s space transportation and logistics infrastructure. D-Orbit also plans to use the AWS ground station with Aurora to communicate with its WILD RIDE mission, launched on June 30, and with D-Orbit’s future fleet.
Together, D-Orbit and AWS are accelerating the use of SmallSat and CubeSat as Earth observation, global telecommunications or space logistics. AWS Ground Station enables customers to transfer data down and effectively control satellite communications in multiple regions, process data and scale operations without worrying about building or managing their own ground station infrastructure and paying only for the actual antenna time used. D-Orbit’s AURORA mission management software reduces mission costs by converting unpredictable costs associated with software design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance into recurring, predictable costs. D-Orbit’s cloud-based AURORA software is accessible through standard web browsers on multiple devices and includes all the tools needed to monitor and control a spacecraft, uplink commands, and satellite data processing.
The collaboration between D-Orbit and AWS gives satellite operators access to an extended network of satellite earth stations and facilitates the acquisition of satellite data in the cloud with AWS. Customers can control their missions and securely connect down and process increasing amounts of satellite data using AWS services in the AWS Global Infrastructure regions for real-time data processing, storage and analysis. For this integration, AWS Professional Services has developed and built a fully automated solution that allows reliable and seamless two-way communication between D-Orbit satellites in orbit and their AURSA cloud operation software with AWS. The solution uses AWS Ground Station and open source radio-defined (SDR) software hosted on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud instances.
“The integration of the AWS ground station into our AURORA mission management software is essential for the management and conduct of increasingly sophisticated payload missions to our ION satellite carriers. The synergy between AURORA and AWS helps mission controllers monitor and control payloads through AWS ‘extensive network of ground stations, transmit and process their satellite data faster and more efficiently, and easily integrate data into cloud-based applications. . AURORA is ready for a fleet or constellation, and the AWS ground station allows D-Orbit to use this capability with global coverage, “said Bruno Carvalho, D-Orbit’s vice president of business development.
Using AWS Ground Station, D-Orbit customers can instantly access AWS storage, calculation and analysis services, such as Amazon S3, to store downloaded data; Amazon Kinesis Data Streams, for managing the absorption of data from satellites; and Amazon SageMaker to build custom machine learning models that can be applied to a wide variety of datasets.
