Finnish Defence Forces continue software development of tactical communications system

The order continues the improvements in the performance of the waveform and the software of the radio platform of the TAC WIN system.

Bittium has received a purchase order from the Finnish Defense Forces to develop a new version of the software for the company’s Tactical Wireless IP Network (TAC WIN) system.

In a statement on July 1, Bittium said the order continues to improve the performance of the software-defined radio-based TAC WIN system based on observations made during field tests and training and waveform studies made by the company.

Estimated at around 2.3 million euros, the order includes options for additional purchases, and the ordered developments should be completed by mid-2022.

The TAC WIN system provides broadband IP connectivity for mobile communication stations and command posts of the Finnish Defense Forces.

“The system supports the combat doctrine of the Finnish Defense Forces, where mobility, troop management and effective communication play a key role. The sustainable and modular system is used by all three branches of the Finnish Defense Forces, ”the Bittium statement said.

With the TAC WIN system, MANET (mobile ad hoc network), connection and connection networks can be quickly formed into one logical IP network, regardless of location.
