Tecore Networks Unveils Groundbreaking – Smart DAS Platform – sDAS | Business

Hanover, Maryland – (BUSINESS WIRE) – October 26, 2021–

Tecore Networks today introduced its sDAS (intelligent distributed antenna system) platform. As 5G networks are rapidly replacing legacy wireless technologies, consumers are demanding superior indoor coverage, higher bandwidth, improved performance and a better user experience. DAS solutions continue to be the most appropriate to meet these requirements; however, they are complex, expensive, and usually limited to very large retail outlets or corporate campuses. As with any technology, the future lies in the evolution of the standard and the ability to adapt the technology to superior coverage to make it more accessible to more users.

Tecore’s intelligent DAS architecture provides an extremely flexible, cost-effective, optimized platform capable of evolving with commercial wireless technologies. This NexGen sDAS architecture is specifically designed to eliminate the need for radio source equipment, eliminating the associated equipment costs and minimizing the footprint of the head equipment. For operators with existing radio equipment, sDAS is able to accommodate a hybrid mode of operation, allowing the simultaneous use of on-board multi-RAT capabilities, while supporting legacy analog inputs via mPOI (mulit-RAT Point of Interface). The mPOI is able to receive external sources of radio signal for propagation with other simultaneously operating digital signals in the mainband, which allows operators to selectively use local and external radio resources.

The sDAS platform provides a flexible solution for any type of location, covering 14 licensed radio bands with a pair of mRU (multi-RAT Radio Unit) -based smart radios. The intelligent mRU radio supports the following functions:

  • One subwoofer supports seven (7) LTE / NR bands (2/25, 4/10/66, 30, 41)
  • One midband radio supports seven (7) LTE / NR bands (5/26, 12/17, 13/14, 71)
  • Works with four (4) tapes simultaneously at 20 watts RF power per tape
  • Support for All-Gs (GSM, UMTS, LTE, NR)
  • NMS adapted for neutral host and BYOC
  • Support for shared power sharing of the operator’s DAS
  • Daisy circuit for easy installation
  • Integrated BBU with S1 / N2 interface to the core
  • Compact form factor (14.5 ”x14.5” x4.5 ”)
  • DL / UL media aggregation
  • Outdoor evaluation – IP67
  • AC power supply

“We are excited to introduce this innovative sDAS platform to the market. As superior coverage, along with fast and reliable connectivity, quickly became a standard utility, sDAS will offer seamless, best-in-class service with a view to competing CAPEX and OPEX cost reductions, ”said Jay Salkini, President and Chief Executive Officer. CEO of Tecore Networks.

sDAS is designed to reduce complexity by facilitating the evolution of the current DAS architecture and minimizing main room equipment by up to 90%. sDAS consists of 3 components: mDU (multi-RAT Digital Unit), mPOI and mRU. The mDU is a 1U x86 element located in the head that can be connected directly to the carrier’s core network via a 3GPP S1 / N2 interface. mPOI is an optional 1U element that is only needed if the Carrier analog source is used. By reducing rack space requirements for head component placement and minimized power and HVAC requirements, sDAS drastically reduces OPEX costs and significantly speeds up installation time, as operators can now connect mDUs directly via the S1 / N2 interface via IP to your core without having to wait to run a fiber to the signal source, which makes this solution simple, flexible, easy and much faster to deploy.

The mDU digitally generates the required radio signals in the required bands and sends them to the mRU, where the signal of each carrier is then transmitted independently in each frequency band. With the added ability to connect mRUs in series, the fiber transition to the head is a thing of the past. sDAS is suitable for providers with a single medium, multiple media, or neutral hosts, and can seamlessly add media to the same mDU without changing the headprint. In addition, one mDU can support 1000 simultaneously active users. SDAS technology can be scaled as needed to provide coverage for thousands more users.

Tecore Networks is ready to assist you and your customers in realizing the benefits of this intelligent NextGen DAS architecture; providing a reliable, forward-looking, adaptive wireless infrastructure solution that can be customized for each deployment scenario.
