As Nigerians celebrated Eid al-Fitr in 2021 across the country, acting police inspector general Usman Baba ordered strict security.
Baba also approved the deployment of police officers and other operational assets of the Security Enhancement Force even after the Sala holiday.
This was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday by the public relations police officer, CP Frank Mba, adding that the IGP order is contained in a directive to the Assistant Chief Police Inspectors (AIGs), Police Commissioners (CPs) and other strategic commanders of the Forces.
He explained that the order is part of the police leadership’s efforts to stabilize security, improve public safety and make the country a safer place for all citizens.
While noting that the nation’s security ecosystem has been challenged, the police chief has assured that these challenges are not insurmountable.
He assured the citizens that the Forces, according to his new police vision, are already implementing new, improved, adapted and reliable security solutions aimed at tackling crime and neutralizing both existing and emerging security threats in the country.

“He called on citizens to support the police to come out on a common front to meet the challenges. The IGP reminded citizens of the newly introduced Phase 4 National Response to the COVID-19 Health Regulation and called for voluntary compliance with the protocols.
He equally supervises police commissioners in all states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to ensure full implementation of the protocols. However, he warned that police officers assigned to such enforcement should do so with the highest level of professionalism, while showing compassion, decency and due respect for the fundamental rights of citizens.
Meanwhile, the IGP, on behalf of all Nigerian police officers, congratulated all believing Muslims in the country as they joined the Muslim ummah around the world to mark this year’s Eid-el-Fitr. He urged them to embrace the virtues and teachings of Ramadan in their daily endeavors and warned all Nigerians to take the spirit of obedience to the laws of the earth and the pursuit of the common good.
