Electromagnetic environment (EME) activity is increasingly focused on maintaining digital sources. The rise of wide area networks, mobile communications and automation in civilian and defense applications means that key parts of the spectrum are heavily congested and increasingly contested militarily. This growth is likely to be sustained by the proliferation of devices using digital-enabled functionality through automation, the Internet of Things, and space data services.
