GEODE (GalilEO for EU Defense) is the largest Galileo application development project ever launched and a decisive and decisive step towards the development of the Galileo Galileo PRS military consumer segment (PRS). GEODE is also one of the most ambitious projects for cooperation in the field of defense, launched under the auspices of the European Program for European Defense Industrial Development (EDIDP).

Co-financed by Belgium, Germany, Italy, France and Spain, GEODE is supported by the EU with a grant of around € 44 million.

GMV, part of the Spanish industry team, will develop the GNSS / PRS receiver’s signal processing, navigation and synchronization functions. GMV also participated in the inaugural GEODE meeting on February 8.

GEODE aims to increase the competitiveness of EU industry in the highly strategic area of military positioning, navigation, synchronization and synchronization (PNT) and to provide Galileo’s PRS capability to the EU military. The project will be implemented by a consortium of 30 companies from 14 EU countries.

The Spanish industrial team, made up of GMV, Indra and Tecnobit, takes responsibility for the first level of the overall development of the solution for naval military platforms (GNSS / PRS receiver with security module and CRPA antenna). GMV is responsible for the integration of the GNSS / PRS receiver system and in particular for the development of all signal processing, navigation and synchronization functions of the receiver.

GEODE will provide the EU industry with a level playing field in the PNT defense market, where the essential importance of military GPS currently guarantees the supremacy of American industry. It will also strengthen the EU’s military capacity and autonomy and maximize the benefits of the Galileo program by promoting the deployment of its key PRS service.

After an initial phase of specification and standardization, the project will prototype, test and qualify all elements of a complete PRS solution:

  • PRS security modules
  • PRS receivers
  • GPS / Galileo PRS compatible antennas with controlled radiation scheme (CRPA)
  • General and standardized test environment.

A PRS solution for spacecraft will also be designed and prototyped. In addition, a PRS infrastructure will be developed to ensure the availability of security assets needed for operational testing.

Military operational field tests of military naval and ground platforms, RPAS and a synchronization and synchronization system will be organized.

GEODE will increase the competitiveness of EU industry in the highly strategic area of military positioning, synchronization and synchronization, promote the equipping of EU Member States’ military forces with Galileo’s PRS capability, essential to strengthen their interoperability and autonomy . It will also facilitate access to sophisticated certified security technologies and make them available through standardization tools and by creating the necessary critical mass.
